You have done a lot of work. Great job!

My favorite coupon database is www.couponmom.com
I keep the atlanta area bookmarked on my toolbar, very handy when blogging.

I love Publix and am so glad I found this. I am confused about how some of the deals work though. For ex., you say Kellogg's Cereal is FREE with Peelie. One costs 3.99. $3.99 - $2.00 = $1.99. I get that the other box is free. Same thing on the Post Cereal. Am I looking at something wrong or missing something? Please help! Thanks! -Christy C.

Hi Christy,

I'm glad you found my site! Send me an email and let me know if you are in GA or FL (or another state). I will send you a detailed email on how Publix works in your area to help you out! savingyourcents (at) gmail (dot) com

I hope to hear from you soon!

Why are you showing Food Lion coupons for Publix? Does Publix accept any coupon? Thanks for all the tips.

Michelle@Life with Three said...

Hey, Lissa:

Thanks for the heads up on all of this. I find it hard to save money at Publix -- at least in my area. I'm in Georgia. I'd love to have you send me the detailed email, as well. I'm sure it's just because I don't understand the system. Also -- my other question is the same as Kim's. I'm assuming Publix accepts competitors' coupons? Thanks for your help!

Thank you for posting this! I love reading about coupon match-ups. I think the mango deal is even better than you figured, though, if I understand correctly. BOGO/save $1.00 means that the mangos will ring up at $0.50 each (outside of FL, that is - I'M in GA). So you would get 10 mangos for $5 - $2 Food Lion Q = $3 for 10 mangos. Not bad!

I'm sure the detailed email covered this, but for other readers who are wondering, Publix does accept competitor coupons. It's up to each store manager what qualifies as a competitor, though. For instance, my Publix will take Food Lion coupons even though the nearest FL is over 20 miles away, but they won't accept Super Target coupons. And just remember that you can use two coupons on BOGO items, so the cereal would be $3.99 - $2 - $2 = FREE. I love Publix BOGO deals, because they truly reflect the shelf price half off, not some inflated price. =)

Hi Lissa,
I saw the link back to my site--THANK YOU!

The BOGO coupon I THINK you are talking about for Publix Ziploc is about to expire on 6/27 it is

Ziploc Brand Fresh Shield Easy Zipper Bags With Expandable Bottom, Any - 05-03-09 SS - valid up to $2.19

I did see them for 1.99 at my publix. But only has 2 days left to get them.

This is my first time to your site - and I love it! I'm in Alabama and I usually avoid going to Publix because their prices seem so high. But these tips and coupons ought to help things! Thanks!

I am glad that each and everyone of you have stopped by! I have had such a response to "how Publix works" that I am going to write a separate posting on it instead of answering you individually!

I will try to have this article done by later this evening. I have a planned outing today but I will work on it as soon as I get back and hopefully it will answer any of the questions that you may have!

MB thanks for the coupon dates! I hope you can get some free Ziplocs! If not you can still use the .40/1 coupon to get them for .20 each!

Thanks for the comments!

Lissa, you're awesome ! Thanks...I love all your tips in the post for Publix...you go girl !

Amethyst Moon said...

A big thanks for the great postings, especially all the work.
I can't wait to read your posting on how Publix works.

A great tip since Publix accepts competitors coupons: make sure to check Albertsons for the frequent $5 off $50 Publix will take it as well.

Thanks for the deal ideas.

Just a word of warning, though- my Publix doesn't take SuperTarget or Food Lion coupons, so it really would depend on your location. I would check at customer service before you stock your cart!

I hope our Publix has the peelies on the cereal! I use the $1 off coupon last week at CVS...

Thanks!

The local Publix in Cape Haze/Englewood Fl doesn't take competitor's coupons even though they state they do. When I emailed Publix headquarters they stated they had NO competition in this area so they didn't need to and therefore refuse to double coupons as well for the same reason. I have tried to give them Food Lion, Albertson and Target coupons and they have all be rejected by the cashier I then ask to see a manager and the manager said NO! The Englewood store is across the street from Sweetbay and they state they take Sweetbay coupons BUT Sweetbay doesn't have coupons!
Sad that they treat us this way, I now shop Sweetbay for 90% of my groceries.
Stepup Publix!

Anne said...

Just a FYI - As of last week, Publix says they will only accept competitors coupons from other GROCERY stores and will no longer honor drug stores coupons, such as Rite-Aid's $5 off $25. Darn!

Lisa said...

did you find the Family is It's Own Reward booklet at the Cartersville Publix?

Lisa said...

Do you know if Rite Aid coupons are still being accepted at the Cartersville Publix? See Anne's comment.

Lissa said...

Lisa,

I saw the display for the booklet but someone wiped them out the first day (according to the manager) the display is up front on the right side of the cash registers...you can see where to coupon booklet was suppose to be!

I went into the store Wednesday and had no problems using the Rite aid coupon or any other competitor coupons.

Each store is going to be different...it is all up to each store manager on what they will and won't accept!

Anon,
I understand the frustration. I have had many people tell me that their FL Publix is this way. I wish that every store allowed coupons they way that mine does...it would save everyone so much money!

Candi,
I saw the peelies not only at Publix but at Kroger as well. You may be able to check there (if you have one) or another grocery store. The manufacturer sometimes send the same peelie coupons to each store (some products are shipped this way and sometime the coupons are sent separately and the employees plave them on the items). Hope this helps!

Wow,
Thank you for all the work you have put into this!! I run a coupon/bargain blog too and I know how much work it is. I had no idea about Publix accepting competitor's coupons though. We have a Publix right around the corner from our house and I have started shopping their BIGIF sales a lot lately. After reading your blog today, I ran up there and spoke to customer service (I'm in NW FL by the way) and found out they take any and all competitor's coupons excluding pharmacy. I was so psyched!! I came back home and went through your list printing off everything I needed. My shopping bill this evening went from $74.57 down to $43.00 - thanks a ton!!

Monica Wilkinson said...

I am assuming based on your calculations that your Publix doubles coupons? Neither one near me does.

Also, I have never heard of a store that will let you use more than one coupon on the same item. Does that really work?

I'm also just a bit curious about the ethics of that - not being harsh, just trying to sort that out in my own mind.

What are your thoughts on that?

Lissa said...

Kim,
My local Publix accepts Food Lion Coupons as a competitor. They won't accept any coupon. If your store accepts competitor coupons it would only be the ones in your area. Some stores participate and some do not. Those that do may or may not accept drug store coupons. Some will only take traditional grocery store coupons.

I hope this helps! Just be sure to check with your customer service desk. I have had many readers check with their local Publix store to find out that they do accept competitor coupons and before they did not know this information!

Michelle,
Many of the stores in GA accept competitor coupons. I have had some readers write in letting me know that some of the coastal stores or stores near Florida do not accept competitor coupons.

I hope that you have been able to read my post on how my Publix coupon policy works. If your store accepts competitor coupons make sure that you ask if they will allow you to stack them with manufacturer coupons. Most do! Thanks for asking!

Anon,
You are so welcome! I corrected the mango deal...you were right! Thanks for elaborating on the coupon policy. I have had quite a response to this and it helps when people like yourself come in and help out also! My Food Lion store is also over 20 miles away and are still considered a competitor!

I agree about the BOGO sales. Most grocery stores hike up the price of an item and then put it on sale for a little bit lower than it would be if it were the price before they hiked it up! I have seen Kroger do this time and time again! Especially on their cereal!
Thanks again!

Lissa said...

Michelle,
I'm glad that you saw the link up! You're welcome!

MB,
Thanks again for the coupon info!

Angel,
I'm glad you found me! I hope that you give Publix a try! They have wonderful sales! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Lynn,
Thanks for the love! I hope to hear from you again!

Amethyst Moon,
You are so right about the time...but it is so worth it! I love sharing my knowledge to help other families save! Thanks for the Albertsons tip...we don't have one but I have hear that they had great sales also!

Anon,
Yes it does depend on your location. You are so right! You definitely want to check with the customer service desk before you fill that cart up!

Anne Blong,
Bummer that your store has stopped accepting them. Many stores are in the process of changing and rearranging their policies. They are seeing more coupon users than they ever have and I think that they are moving towards a corporate policy. For now it is still up to the local stores. I spoke with corporate office on this issue and was told that they want to be able to give each store the ability to cater to the consumers. If accepting competitor coupons is what they want...corporate allows them to do it!

Lissa said...

Eally,
I am so excited to hear that you found out your store accepts competitor coupons! What a savings on your trip! I know that you are excited too! There are so many more deals that you can take advantage of with the use of regular coupons and the competitor coupons! Keep me posted on your deals! If you take pictures of your shopping trips let me know! I will post them!

Lissa said...

Monica (thehomespunheart),
I'm glad you had a chance to stop by.
My Publix does double coupons and accepts many different competitor coupons.

They have been doing this for years. I have had many shopping trips where I was able to stack a manufacturers coupon with a competitors coupon on one product. You can pull up my shopping trips and see many trips from Publix using competitor coupons.

I understand your concern dealing with the ethics side of competitor coupons.

I have to say, in my personal opinion, that ethics doesn't play a role in the use of competitor coupons in general. I can see the relation in the abuse of competitor coupons and would have to agree that if you try to be dishonest in their use that we would then have an ethics issue!

I had a meeting with our local Publix store manager quite a few months ago and what he said may allow you to understand why store accept competitor coupons.

It really is just a numbers game. My store manager said, "if me allowing customers to use competitor coupons will bring more business to my store I am all for it"! These were the words right out of his mouth!

There are Publix stores that have the monopoly and do not double coupons nor accept competitor coupons. There are many stores that have plenty of competition and have decided to accept their competitions coupons. Corporate office allows each Publix to make its own decision on how to handle their coupon policy. They pride themselves on customer service, quality, and variety. They know that many of the other grocery stores have implemented store coupons as they do (and tons of them). They strive to be the best and part of that is always being a step ahead of the game. Accepting competitor coupons makes them stand out in the crowd.

I was told that the percentage of shoppers paying regular price for items or even sale price for items far surpasses those who use coupons and is an huge number compared to those who use competitor coupons.

Publix is reimbursed for manufacturer coupons but is not reimbursed for the competitor coupons nor their own Publix coupons. They allow this as a courtesy to those who would like to use them!

There are many bloggers who post the Publix deals and/or there personal shopping trips including the use of competitor coupons.

I love having the option to take advantage of a store that allows competitor coupons. I save so much more money on my groceries this way. I would definitely be content if I weren't allowed to use them but I would miss it!

I really hope that this helps you understand why competitor coupons play such a big role at Publix and in those lives who are able to use them!

My Kroger and CVS allow certain competitor coupons also! Maybe one day all store will accept competitor coupons! Wouldn't that be nice!

Thanks again for writing! Please let me know if you have any more concerns! I would love to talk again!
