Happy Birthday Wishes

Today is my 31st birthday...my how time flies when you have children!

I could have sworn that I just turned 30 the other day!

I am so excited to get my favorite birthday cake...it's an angel food cake with cool whip and strawberries! I'm not a big cake eater. This cake has just the right amount of sweetness! My mom started making it for me when I out-grew the "Humongous Cookie" for a cake stage!

She cuts the cake in half and makes a trench around the bottom ring of the cake. She puts fresh strawberries (that have been mixed with a hint of sugar and water to make a syrup) and pours them into the trench. She puts a layer of cool whip and then lays the top layer down. The cake scraps (from the trench) are put into the center of the cake with more of the strawberry mixture. The cool whip is used as icing over the entire cake and then fresh strawberries garnish the top....so simple yet so wonderful!

I can't wait to see what my daughter has in store for me...we don't take her to buy presents for us. I keep a pretty hefty stash of "crafty" things around the house and we let her make us a card and two gifts! Occasionally we allow her to purchase things but she enjoys making the crafts more than she does shopping for things!

My husband and I usually buy each other a gift for our birthdays but this year we decided to forgo the gifts and just put the money in the bank. As I have mentioned before we have been socking away money like crazy for the past 4 months to prepare for his layoff. There is a high chance that we will have to move (no set details yet) for a new position. Not only did we have to make sure that we had emergency money but we are making sure that we have moving money also!

Time spent with my wonderful family is gift enough for any occasion!

My gift to myself will be to go shopping today instead of Tuesday (while my husband is at work). It is hard for many to understand why I ask for CVS, Publix, Kroger, and Rite Aid gifts cards as presents...but I am positive that all of you can relate! I would rather buy $100 worth of groceries and toiletries for $10 than any other material thing in the whole wide world! Does that make me crazy? :)

Happy Birthday! I just turned 31 too. I could not agree with you more about the gift cards! If that's crazy, then I'm living in the same nut house.

Happy Birthday! No I do not think the GC's are an odd request. Besides, us couponers, can do some damage with a $10 GC! LOL

I actually asked for shelves (steel units) for my stockpile one year! DH thought I was nuts, but he bought them for me. Now he sees how smart it was ;)

Enjoy your day!

I used to request stamps back in the day. Rebates were a lot easier to do back then and a roll of stamps was something I could turn into $100+.

happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Girl!

I TOTALLY relate to the gift card rather than anything else! My Husband and I usually do not buy anything for each other on our birthdays either..we are only 6 days apart...too much money at one time! lol!

I'm glad I'm not the only one...as far as the gift cards go! lol

Everyone has been so sweet with comments and emails!

Thank you all!

I had a laid back birthday with a splurge on eating out (which we have practically cut out! Mexican was my choice!) and my favorite cake along with homemade banners and cards from my daughter!

Oh yeah...and I clipped, purged expired, and organized my coupons! I do this every Monday and this year my birthday just happened to fall on that day! :) It always feels nice to have an orderly coupon system once you have torn it up for the prior 4 weeks!
