A Full Cup: A great resource for coupons and tips!

A Full Cup

If you have never been to A Full Cup.Com you should definitely give it a whirl! I use the site specifically for my store matchups. They have an awesome coupon database that allows you to look up coupons for specific products.

If you ever "think" that you have a coupon for something but don't remember where it came from or if it was one that you just read about and you want to see if you have it you can use the database to look them up. The database tells you what date the coupon came out, the expiration date, the product, the amount of the coupon and your can sort them all kinds of ways!

They do have other great information in each forum. There are forums set up specifically for various grocery stores, drug stores, national store chains etc.

People, just like you an me, are what makes up this gigantic forum of great deals and finds. If someone finds clearance items...they share the info...if someone sees a good deal online...they let you know.

If you are a current member of A Full Cup be sure to let us know how this site helps you out!

Coupon Myth: No coupons for products I use

I often run into individuals who tell me that there are no coupons for items that they purchase. I try hard not to argue with those who make this statement because usually there mind is already made up....

But...there are coupons for the things that everyone uses. You may just not see them at first glance!

I honestly think that this excuse not to use coupons is really to cover up another hidden excuse. NOT wanting to veer away from the brands that we are accustomed to buy!

Most people buy a specific brand name (or store brand) of a product. As I have learned over the years NOT to be brand name specific I find myself saving a ton of money! I was a Gain laundry detergent user~long live Gain. Once I started using coupons and getting the CVS store brand for free and the ALL for less than $1 (once I even snagged quite a few bottles of Tide for less than $1.50 each) I realized that by trying new products I really wasn't dissatisfied. They all worked the same. The scents may be different (let's not talk about the Mountain Scent Tide~yuck) but they all serve the same purpose...to clean your clothes!

I can be honest about purchasing only Heinz Ketchup and purchasing my meat from certain stores (for sanitary purposes) but I am allowed the luxury of sticking with a few of my favorites because I save so much on the others!

Bargain Briana wrote a great short post here describing how she can bust that myth!

Produce coupons DO come out along with meat and dairy! I don't know a family that doesn't eat cereal and those coupons come out all of the time! Shampoo, Toilet Paper, Steak Sauce, Ketchup...whatever you may buy...the coupons are there! If you are patient...they will come out!

The only exception that I can think of is a family that purchases nothing but organic foods! Although many coupons come out for these products they are harder to find and not in as abundance as every other coupon that comes out! You may not see a significant savings in this area but there are coupons for many of the organic products (be sure to check out my Links Page for a long list of organic printable coupons)

Be sure to check out Briana's post! She hit the nail on the head!

Coupon Resources Series: Resource #1: Direct Contact

At The Readers Request: Welcome to my new series on coupon resources. Over the next few weeks I plan on writing many articles showing you where to find more coupons for the things that you use in your home!

I have received multiple emails requesting information on how to find more coupons and I am answering those emails with this new series!

Resource #1: Contacting the manufacturer directly (to have them mail you coupons)!

Why you should consider contacting a manufacturer for coupons?

Many times there are products that each family uses over and over (your staple products or luxury items)...some of these products may very rarely have a coupon released for them!

For example:
I love Heinz Ketchup...I simply won't eat any other brand. In the last year they have only released 1 coupon (and that was summer of 08'). I wrote an email to the customer support group explaining why I loved their product and how I wished that they sent more coupons out for their products. I gave my address at the end with my signature and 2-3 weeks later they sent me coupons in the mail along with a thank you note!

Another example is Mission. I wrote an email to them stating that I loved their product and explained why. Again, I stated that coupons very rarely came out for their product and 2-3 weeks later they sent me coupons in the mail....coupons for FREE Mission Tortillas!

Other examples include...
Specialty products (such as gourmet, organic, or a product that is made by a smaller company)
Bread companies (Sara Lee, EarthGrains, etc)
Produce companies (green giant)
Meat companies (Tyson, Perdue,etc)

It has been my experience that the larger companies do not respond as well as the smaller companies. Many of the larger companies already release coupons for their products in the newspapers or online.

Releasing coupons for a product is a very expensive form of advertising and the larger companies can absorb that cost while the smaller companies cannot. The smaller companies more than likely have coupons but will have less in quantity due to overhead costs. This is why they only send them out at your request!

If you have a product that you purchase but never get coupons for it...consider writing or calling the manufacturer! More than likely they will send you some coupons! Occasionally I have not been able to acquire coupons and will receive an email stating that they do not have any available to send at this time (for these responses you can wait a month or two and try again if you would like).

It only takes a minute or two to write an email to show your appreciation for their product and, in my opinion, definitely worth the time!

Here is an example of what you could write...

Dear XXX,
I have been purchasing (product name here) for (length of time) and I wanted to let you know that (give reason of why you like their product...list all pros).

I would love for you to add my address to your mailing list for upcoming promotions and coupons! ( You could also just ask them for coupons if you wish to...if you have any coupons available at this time, I would love for you to send them to me!)

Sincerely,
XXX
(your address here)

TIP: If you plan on contacting more than one company you may want to create a word document to use as a template. All you would have to do is type it up once and change out the product information which would be much quicker for you to do than to type a new email each time!

If you have had experience in receiving coupons from a manufacturer using the "Contact" method, please share your story with us and let us know which manufacturer you contacted!

Here is a list of manufacturer's with links to their sites!

Coupon Resources: Catalina's

Catalina's

Catalina: Coupons that print out on separate machines next to cash registers at various stores.

Many of you know that Catalina's are one of the many coupon resources at your fingertips!

For my locals, the following stores have Catalina printing machines. Kmart, Kroger, and Ingles.

These coupons are triggered by certain purchases you make or certain amounts that you spend. Most of the time you don't know if you are going to get one or what you bought that caused one to print out for you. It's a game of chance for the most part!

There are forums on hotcouponworld that talk about current Catalina deals or Catalina's that are printing out. Members of that site post their findings to help everyone out!

Most of the time the Catalina's are for cents or dollars off of a certain item but occasionally they will print out coupons for a certain amount off of your next order when you purchase so many of one certain item!

Here are the 3 types of Catalina's

1.) An $ amount off of your next purchase when you buy 1 product.

Example: The most recent Catalina deal that I was able to take advantage of was at Kmart during one of their first "Double Coupon" days. If you purchased 1 Maalox liquid bottle you receive a Catalina for $2 off of your next order. The price of the Maalox was $4.XX and I had a $2 coupon that was doubled making the price of it less than $1. I received a $2 coupon and therefore profited on that purchase!

2.) An amount off of your next purchase when you buy multiples of 1 product. These Catalina Deals are advertised on Catalina's themselves BEFORE the deal goes into effect. They will have the start and end date along with the specific items required for purchase.

Example: This last summer Kroger ran an awesome Catalina Deal on Planter's Peanuts (I don't remember the exact prices so please don't quote me on this...I am just using it as an example). Here is what it would look like on the advertising Catalina...

Buy 2 Planter's Peanuts and get $2 off of your next order
Buy 3 Planter's Peanuts and get $3 off of your next order
Buy 4 or more Planter's Peanuts and get $6 off of your next order

To make the deal even sweeter there were multiple $3 off planters coupons and $3 off (I think that was the right amount) on any Kraft Cheese when you purchased 2 other Kraft product (Planter's is a Kraft product) coupons also! Ultimatley I was able to purchase 12 cans of peanuts and 6 packs of cheese for FREE using all of the coupons combined PLUS I profited $18 from the Catalina's!

3.) Cents or Dollar amounts off of a product or "Free" product Catalina's. These coupons often have higher amounts off of a product than regular manufacturer coupons. Normally you would see a $1/1 coupon for a product in a manufacturer coupon but a Catalina may be for $3 off of that same item. I have been able to get numerous "free" item coupons from Ingles. Some items have included Coffee and Cottonelle Wipes along with many others.

FYI: Catalina's are actually manufacturer coupons that can be used at any store that accepts coupons. Most stores WILL NOT take them if they have another store name on them. You will notice that each Catalina has the following information above the bar code..."Redeemable at XXX".

Tips: Keep an eye out!

It is corporate policy for the cashier's to make sure that they hand the Catalina's to the customer's. Occasionally they will forget but it is AGAINST there policy to keep them for themselves. Most of them just throw them away while others place them on the counter for other customer's to take! Self-Checkouts are a great source of outcast Catalina's. Many times they are just left hanging on the machine from the last person who checked out! Any time I see them I grab them!

My daughter is even in on the game! Any time she goes shopping with me she scouts them out and usually sees some before I do! I also look through the tops of the small trash cans that are located at the self-checkouts! I don't touch them if food or drink trash is in them but most of the time they just have paper trash in them!

I always ask the cashiers if they have any laying around! Once the cashiers get to know you they may even save a stack for you!

Disney $3/1 DVD Coupon

Here is an example of a great coupon!

Go here to print out your $3/1 Disney DVD coupon!

It allowed me to print out 10 of these! I plan to share them with my family and friends to help save them money when they purchase movies for Christmas presents, we always do movie packs for giveaways!

It may or may not allow you to print out this many...the usual is only 2 copies. Sometimes they do allow more to be printed such as in this case! If you use Firefox or Slimbrowser as your web browser I highly recommend copying the link and pasting it in Internet explorer before printing! Once you print the 1st one all you have to do is hit the back arrow in the top left hand corner of your screen to keep printing the coupons. Tip: You must wait until the screen says "Thank You..." before hitting it 3 times!

Tip: You can stack this coupon with the $5/1 Publix Advantage Flier Coupon to get a total of $8 off any Disney movie priced $11.99 and above. Sleeping Beauty is $19.99 but with these coupons it will be $11.99. There are also tons of $12.99 Disney DVD's that will only cost you $4.99 after the coupons!

Gas Station Coupons

Think about how often you visit a gas station! I usually go once every 2 weeks for gas and once per week for coupons!

Sometimes you can find tear pads on displays or at the cash register for coupons on items such as chips, candy and drinks!

Next time you go to the gas station take a look around! You never know what you might find!

Let us know what coupons you have found and I will do the same!

Rayovac $1/1 Coupon

Go here to get the coupon! (scroll down on the page and you will see the link for the coupon)

This coupon is in PDF format and can be printed as many times as you would like!

Tip: Please note that you will not be able to go into a store and use 10 at once! The suggested number for any amount of coupon is 4 - 6 per transaction! Some stores may only allow you to use 2 at a time!

This coupon doesn't expire until 2/28/09...so you will have plenty of time to use them but print them now before the promotion ends!

Tip: Ingles often sells the double packs for .98 each! If you use this coupon the register WILL beep because the coupon is for more than the purchase price! The cashier will have to adjust the coupon down to the .98 in order for it to go through! Target also has these double packs up by the registers for $1 per pack! The coupons should not beep there!

Coupons are released at various times during the month on this website! The bulk of them are released at the beginning of each month! Sometimes these coupons are really valuable and may go quickly (each coupons has a limit to the number printed from the website, I am not sure of the exact number though). Coupons with high dollar amounts or coupons for items that rarely have coupons are the ones to go the quickest!

Be sure to bookmark this page as a referral for the future if you haven't already! You can also print the coupons from my website and help support SavingYourCents!
